MMHCS has partnered with CPCA in launching the Medical Assistant+ Program to assist health centers in their efforts to successfully onboard and retain qualified MAs. With over 8,000 MAs employed in California health centers, we have a significant opportunity to be responsive to CPCA members’ concerns of MAs lack of health center clinical preparation, orientation to the health center environment and high turnover while providing a health care center career path for individuals throughout the state’s rural and urban communities.

CPCA knows that Medical Assistants (MAs) play a critical role in providing care and expanding capacity within care teams and CPCA had long worked to provide technical assistance and resources aimed to helping community health centers (CHC’s) effectively utilize MAs. CPCA has consistently heard from CHC’s that it is challenging to recruit equally challenging, if not more so, to retain those MAs for more than 12-14 months once trained.
